Blue Book Listing 8.02

Ichthyosis

Group of genetic skin disorders causing thick, scaly skin.

What you have to prove

Show ichthyosis with extensive skin lesions persisting for at least 3 months despite continuing treatment as prescribed.

Medical evidence SSA expects

Dermatologist diagnosis, photographs of skin lesions, treatment records, and a documented treatment course of at least 3 months.

Common misconceptions

Extensive skin lesions are defined as lesions that involve multiple body sites or critical body areas (hands, feet, face, groin) that very seriously limit daily activities. Small patches of dry skin don't qualify.

Didn't meet the listing? You can still qualify via a Medical-Vocational Allowance — SSA's determination that your residual functional capacity, combined with your age, education, and work history, leaves no jobs you can do. See our appeals guide for what to do after an initial denial.
