Blue Book Listing 7.18

Repeated Complications of Hematological Disorders

Multiple serious complications from any hematologic condition.

What you have to prove

Show repeated complications of a hematological disorder, including those listed in 7.05–7.17, resulting in significant, documented symptoms or signs (fever, fatigue, shortness of breath, muscular pain) AND a marked limitation in activities of daily living, social functioning, OR completing tasks in a timely manner due to deficiencies in concentration.

Medical evidence SSA expects

Comprehensive hematology records, functional assessments, and documentation of persistent symptom burden.

Common misconceptions

This listing is a catch-all for patients who don't clearly meet other 7.00 criteria but are clearly impaired. Strong third-party statements and treating specialist opinions are key.

Didn't meet the listing? You can still qualify via a Medical-Vocational Allowance — SSA's determination that your residual functional capacity, combined with your age, education, and work history, leaves no jobs you can do. See our appeals guide for what to do after an initial denial.
