Blue Book Listing 10.06

Non-Mosaic Down Syndrome

Chromosomal disorder (trisomy 21) with characteristic features.

What you have to prove

Non-mosaic Down syndrome established by karyotype analysis OR by clinical findings of characteristic facial features, other physical findings, and evidence of cognitive or social dysfunction.

Medical evidence SSA expects

Karyotype results when available, pediatric and adult medical records, developmental assessments, and genetic counseling notes.

Common misconceptions

Mosaic Down syndrome is evaluated under other listings. Non-mosaic Down qualifies without additional functional testing — the diagnosis is the gateway.

Didn't meet the listing? You can still qualify via a Medical-Vocational Allowance — SSA's determination that your residual functional capacity, combined with your age, education, and work history, leaves no jobs you can do. See our appeals guide for what to do after an initial denial.
