Blue Book Listing 13.05

Lymphoma

Cancer of the lymphatic system — Hodgkin and non-Hodgkin varieties.

What you have to prove

Meet listing via: (1) aggressive lymphoma persisting or recurring following initial anti-cancer therapy, OR (2) indolent lymphoma requiring treatment more than once within any 12-month period, OR (3) lymphoma with HIV infection, OR (4) lymphoma treated by bone marrow or stem cell transplantation (approved for 12 months post-transplant).

Medical evidence SSA expects

Pathology reports, staging records, treatment history (chemo, radiation, immunotherapy), PET/CT scans, and oncologist notes.

Common misconceptions

Most lymphoma applicants approved at the listing level are in aggressive treatment. Those in remission post-treatment often face a re-determination at 12 months.

Didn't meet the listing? You can still qualify via a Medical-Vocational Allowance — SSA's determination that your residual functional capacity, combined with your age, education, and work history, leaves no jobs you can do. See our appeals guide for what to do after an initial denial.
